Aluminum Poles: Born to Resist Corrosion

For many years, iron and stainless steel have been the mainstream materials for street light poles. However, in recent years, aluminum alloy poles have become increasingly popular in more and more projects. What’s the reason behind this? Landmark explains why our aluminum alloy poles offer exceptional corrosion resistance.

Surface Treatment

Traditional iron or stainless steel light poles face the constant challenge of rust. Even with hot-dip galvanizing and surface coatings, these coatings tend to flake off over time, exposing the metal. This shortens the light pole’s lifespan, and necessitating frequent replacements. That result in the light poles’ long-term cost increasing.

Aluminum poles from Landmark are completely different. Using a precise electrolytic anodizing process, we create a dense, integrated oxide layer directly on the aluminum light pole surface. Prior to anodizing, we apply a satin brushed finish to the surface. This not only enhances aesthetics but also significantly improves the adhesion of the oxide layer. The result? An extremely hard, uniform protective film up to 20μm thick. This barrier renders our poles completely rustproof, earning us a 15-year warranty—a testament to their inherent durability.

Material strength

Strength is crucial for light poles to withstand wind loads. Iron and stainless steel light poles were once widely used, in large part due to their high material strength.

Aluminum alloys, with their lower strength and hardness, struggle to meet the high strength requirements of light poles. However, Landmark’s aluminum alloy light poles undergo an advanced heat treatment process, including quenching and aging. This high-temperature process transforms the material’s properties, resulting in strength comparable to that of iron—a fact verified by relevant testing and reports. This ensures the necessary structural strength without the hidden costs of corrosion.

Actual case proof

Theory needs to be tested in practice, as exemplified by the South Sharqiah Coastal Road Project in Oman. Five years ago, Landmark supplied a batch of aluminum alloy single-arm curved lighting poles for this highly corrosive and windy coastal environment. This past June, our colleagues, while on a business trip, made a special trip back to the project site. Despite years of exposure to strong winds and salty moisture, the poles remain pristine, with virtually no visible changes. The image at the beginning of this article is a true reflection of the project we captured on site. Success stories like the one in Oman are numerous around the world, and our confidence in Landmark aluminum alloy light poles continues to grow.

Quality commitment builds trust

In addition to providing aluminum alloy strength test reports, we also offer a 15-year warranty. At Landmark, we not only manufacture light poles, but also deliver lasting value. Our commitment to durability, aesthetics, and environmental performance is embedded in every corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy light pole.
